Saint Kevin School educates students in the Roman Catholic tradition providing academic excellence in a nurturing environment., Our curriculum and spiritual support prepare our students to be life-long learners and enlightened Christians who share their time, talent, and treasure within the community.
Following the establishment of St. Kevin Parish in 1956, Father Raymond Murphy realized the need to organize the parish into a viable family unit. Parishioners gave their time and talent to establish the means, which enabled Father Murphy to begin construction of a Catholic school for the education of the youth of the parish.
On Easter Sunday, April 6, 1958, ground was broken for the combined school, chapel, and convent. The school was dedicated on May 20, 1959 and opened that fall with four classes, two first, one second and one third. Parish children in public schools attended religious education classes after school hours.
As enrollment increased, it was necessary to add more classroom space. Following a successful capital campaign run by the building fund committee, in September 1962, 18 classrooms were available for students in grades one to eight. On June 13, 1965, the first graduating class of 40 students received their diplomas.
Following the graduation ceremony, ground was broken for construction of the new church and hall. On October 23, 1966, Bishop Bernard Kelly formally dedicated and blessed St. Kevin’s new church and hall. In November 1966, students of St. Kevin School received the sacrament of First Communion in the new church. With completion of the church, the school chapel became a library/media center following a remodel of the area.
In September 1975, a formalized kindergarten program began at the school. Throughout the years, registrations increased and classrooms expanded in the church hall to accommodate all of the grades. In addition, Sister Mary Kennedy became the full-time CCD education coordinator.
Another campaign for school expansion occurred in spring 1994. Dedicated on February 9, 1997, the new wing added four classrooms, a science lab, computer lab, art room, teachers’ room, conference area, duplicating work center, and larger office facilities. The new wing honors the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, the first teachers to staff St. Kevin School.
Today, the school offers before and after school care as well as part-time and full-day pre-kindergarten classes for three and four year olds. Spanish, computer, art, musical and physical education classes compliment core curriculum.
Since opening its doors in September 1959, St. Kevin School continues to offer exceptional educational experiences in a nurturing environment based on Roman Catholic foundations.
